Top 10 items to put in your holiday checklist
Getting prepared for a getaway is a lot of fun. But, trying to remember all the essentials can be a bit stressful. With that in mind, you should make a checklist with the most important items on it. To help you out, we’ve created our own top 10 checklist for you to use so that you never forget an important item again.
Travel documents
It goes without saying that you need your travel documents when you travel. First and foremost, you need your passport and, you need to ensure it’s valid which means having at least six months left before it expires.
Other important travel documents include your boarding passes for the plane and even a visa, depending on where you’re flying to and from.
Prescription medication
At home, it’s easy to remember your prescription medication because you can always pop to your doctor if you need to. However, on holiday, that’s not an option making it essential that you bring all your medication along with you. Packing this is essential, but to avoid bulky packing, why not separate your pills into a pill box for more efficient organization.
First aid kit
Your health and comfort is essential when travelling. If you’ve got kids with you, a box of plasters and antiseptic cream is a must. Depending on where you’re going, you may find it difficult to access a pharmacy, so a well-stocked first aid kit can be a blessing. Along those lines, why not throw in some sunscreen if you’re going somewhere warm, and some tampons if you think your period might come unexpectedly.
Hat
Depending on where you’re going a hat is a must. In fact, you should always have a hat in your luggage. If it’s sunny, you’ll protect your head from the sun reducing the chance of sunburn and heatstroke. Or, if you’re going to a cold climate, a hat is an essential if you want to stay warm and dry. No matter what, a hat is beneficial.
Sunglasses
If you’re going to a warm place, then protecting your eyes is a must. Sunglasses can make your daily outings much more pleasurable especially if you have sensitive eyes. It’s often a forgotten item, so make sure you pack it early on.
Power bank and charger
These days, we’re all taking photos with our mobile phones. However, this can drain the battery rather quickly. If you’re out for the day in a remote location, you’re not going to be able to charge your phone easily. With this in mind, remember to pack a power bank and bring your charger cable with you. This way you can take as many photos as you want without worrying your phone will die.
Cash
While most of us use plastic or phone pay options, not everywhere is cashless. Having some cash in the currency of the country you’re visiting is a very good way to ensure you’re prepared. In some cases, ATMs may not work, so you won’t be able to rely on those for emergencies. Going to the currency exchange before travel is a must.
Travel insurance
No matter where you’re going, having a travel insurance plan is essential. Though you may be certain nothing is going to happen, that’s not always the case. So, having a travel insurance plan is useful. You can get them for a year and have it renew annually so that you don’t even need to think about it.
Spare bags
Often something completely not considered, spare bags such as totes or plastic bags can come incredibly handy. Bags can be used to store dirty clothes, pack in souvenirs, and more. They also take up next to no space, which is why these are such a great addition to your regular packing essentials.
Toiletries
Finally, you’ll want your own toiletries. Most places you can buy shampoo, shower gel, a toothbrush and so on, but why go through the hassle when you have your favourites already? Grab 100ml bottles and decant your favourite toiletries into a permanent travel bag, so you always have them quickly, and easily, to hand.
